Grade 7 to Grade 9 · day and boarding

Serious work, done with a smile.

Junior Secondary has its own block, its own timetable and its own feel. Pupils take the full CBC range and start to find out what they are good at. Boarding is available for families who need it. Grade 9 ends with KJSEA and a pathway choice. Boys who want a boarding senior school have a place waiting at Rockfields Senior School in Kajiado.

Year by year
Grade 7first year

A new block, new subjects and new expectations. Pupils learn to manage a timetable and a workload, and join a club or a team in the first week.

Grade 8second year

The core subjects go deeper. Science practicals, longer essays, first business and pre-technical projects.

Grade 9final year

KJSEA preparation without panic, pathway guidance for every pupil, and a graduation that marks the end of twelve years for many of them.

Academics

The full CBC range, taught properly.

Grades 7 to 9 follow the Kenyan junior school curriculum. Nine learning areas, a timetable pupils manage themselves, and teachers who mark work the same week it is handed in. Grade 9 sits KJSEA, and we use the two years before it to build the habits that make the exam ordinary rather than frightening.

01

Languages

English and Kiswahili every day. Reading for pleasure is timetabled, not hoped for.

02

Mathematics

Taught in sets from Grade 8 so that nobody is bored and nobody is lost.

03

Integrated Science

Practicals in the lab every week. Write-ups marked for method, not just the answer.

04

Social Studies and Religious Education

Kenya, the region and the world, with debate built into the lessons.

05

Pre-Technical Studies, Agriculture and Nutrition

Hands on. Projects that end with something made, grown or cooked.

06

Creative Arts and Sports

Music, art and PE as subjects with assessment, not fillers between the serious ones.

Pupils are assessed continuously through the year as CBC requires, and parents get a written report each term with a short meeting if they want one.

Co-curricular

Something after the last bell.

Every Junior Secondary pupil picks at least one activity each term. Football and basketball on the turf, athletics, karate in the hall, skating on the yard, music upstairs, and clubs that change with the year: debate, drama, scouts, journalism, science. Teams play other schools in the area, and the ones who are good get taken seriously.

School life

A day in Junior Secondary.

The bus does its rounds from early morning and lessons start at eight. Mid-morning break, lunch cooked on site, afternoon lessons, then an hour of sport or clubs before the day pupils go home. Boarders have supper, supervised prep and lights out at a sensible hour. Uniform is the white shirt and striped tie you see in the photos; PE kit on PE days.

Phones are handed in at the gate and collected at the end of the day. Parents can reach the office at any time on 0725 922 988.
